PORTFOLIO

Portfolio Revamp

For the web improvement I chose to revamp my web portfolio, there were parts of my web portfolio that were rushed and that I was not fully satisfied with after creating it last semester. I decided that the web improvement project would be the perfect opportunity to revisit some of these issues and get them cleaned up ahead of vernissage and stage applications.

Feedback

There were several points of criticism on the original unpolished version, for starters the word switch animation was off putting because the timing was off and the animation itself was poorly done. In the projects section, it was difficult for people without a trackpad or touchscreen to scroll horizontally through the project list. The about section was a little basic and needed something to make it more interesting and there were some small issues on mobile. The page in general felt very static as a whole which didn't really work well with my brand which is mostly about motion.

Outcome

I found a GSAP animation that made word switching very clean and seamless and decided to integrate it to the home page animation. This was a huge boost as the first thing you saw on the page went from being a wonky botched animation to a professional looking seamless animation. Next I added some arrows to the projects section to allow people on a desktop to scroll through them a little more easily. Then came the important part, finding a way to make the page seem less bland and static by adding motion. I decided to add a scrolling title to the projects section which both made the purpose of the section more clear and added some horizontal motion to the site. I then decided to improve the about section by replacing the "about" title with a short sentence introducing myself and I added some movement to it by letting it sort of fade in slowly as the screen got to the about section. Finally I cleaned up the small issues with the mobile version.
